‘La Romeria de San Isidro’ (1819-23) by Goya

What pictures changed your life in some way?

I'll name exhibitions:
ReplyDeleteDonald Sultan at the old MCA
Anselm Keifer at the AIC
Francis Bacon, Maillol Museum , Paris
Christian Boltanski at the old MCA
William Kentridge at the Hirshhorn, DC
Art and Napoleon, JACQUEMART-ANDRE Museum, Paris
Rembrandt, 400th Anniversary, Rijksmuseum Amsterdam
Gustave Moureau at the Art Institute (w/ a follow up at the Moureau studio/museum, Paris)
Ross Bleckner, Mary Boone, NYC
...and te one that started it all, Jim Dine retrospective, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis
That's quite a list, Dan. Speaking of Jim Dine, I've been thinking a lot about his prints recently, particularly his etchings of farm implements and brushes. Something about the single minded focus on the mundane, in order to see if any symbolic forms emerge.
