Views, that is. My slideshow/webtalk/video on Sean Scully is the latest one from the Meditations on Art to have passed 1,000 views on the You Tube channel I set up for them (it's called The Art Channel , in case you didn't know). Following close behind are the video talks (what should be the correct phrase?) on Jim Dine , Piero della Francesca , and Bill Viola . Meanwhile the Kara Walker video is steaming towards 2,000. Take that, You Tube videos of kittens!   Subscribe to Praeterita in a reader

Meditation 63 is on one of the first paintings I remember seeing in a gallery where I stopped and thought: "Wow, that is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Me want to paint. Me want to become painter."   Subscribe to Praeterita in a reader

Number 53 in this weekly series is on a painting by a Scottish painter whose work I first saw in the early 1990s. It's no exaggeration to say that McFadyen was among a group of artists whose work finally pushed me into applying to go to art college.   Subscribe to Praeterita in a reader

This week's Meditation is in the form of a personal memory of seeing a statue by Michelangelo for the first time when I was fourteen.   Subscribe to Praeterita in a reader
