Finally got back to the studio. I sanded the surface of a couple of panels, covered several more in a fresh layer of moulding paste, applied a light stain to a few others.
I also took an old canvas with abstract marks on it, and tried pouring different mixtures of acrylic glazing medium and pigment onto the surface. My hope is that they will dry as a transparent red, blue, brown, etc, so that they will appear to be sitting on top of everything else, but will allow everything else still to be visible:
