Some decent photos of these, for once. The hazy shapes are the ones that are buried beneath many layers of acrylic gels. The gritty texture of the darkest shapes occurs, I think, because there are minute pores in the surface of the acrylic skin that the paint sinks into. As soon as I painted the dark shapes, I blotted them with newsprint, and then ran the panels under water for a few minutes to dissolve the shapes a little. I've just finished restoring and assembling my large etching press -- a six week process involving lots of rust removal, scrubbing with steel wool, and repainting.
