For the last nine years, my wife Patty has contributed travel articles to "The Elks Magazine". Yes, those Elks. Even though it's an in-house publication, it has a huge print run, and unexpectedly glossy production values. The job required nine 2,000-word articles a year, mostly US destinations with some foreign. I went along as the photographer (as well as for the free ride).
Patty wrote her last article recently. She's giving up the travel writing in order to concentrate on promoting her new book of short fiction. I thought it would be nice to look back over my collection of photos from 2005 (when I got my first digital camera) until now. As a photographer, I am merely average, although the magazine usually printed a couple of them before going to Getty, Corbis, et al (the photo agencies used by print media the world over). Some of the pictures were decent enough to be taken by the magazine, but mainly I've selected one or two from each trip as a visual diary of my travels around the USA (35 states so far), Europe, and Central America.
It was great while it lasted, but really it took up a lot of time, time which we both feel is starting to run ever faster through the Grim Reaper's great hourglass.
Here is the first album. More to follow:
